Why We Built This Tool

Every year, tens of thousands of self-employed individuals and small business owners overpay the IRS — not because they've done anything wrong, but simply because they're operating as a single-member LLC when an S-Corp election could be saving them thousands of dollars annually.

The concept isn't complicated: as an LLC, you pay 15.3% self-employment tax on every dollar of net profit. As an S-Corp, you only pay payroll taxes on your salary — and the rest of your income flows through as a distribution that's completely free of those taxes. On $100,000 of profit, that difference can easily be $5,000–$9,000 per year in savings.

The problem is that understanding exactly how much you'd save — accounting for your specific income, filing status, salary choice, and payroll costs — used to require paying a CPA just to find out if it was even worth asking about. We wanted to eliminate that barrier.

What This Tool Does

SCorp Tax Calculator gives you a clear, honest estimate of your potential annual tax savings from electing S-Corp status. Enter your net profit, choose your filing status, set your proposed salary, and the calculator produces a side-by-side comparison of your estimated total tax burden as an LLC versus an S-Corp — in under 60 seconds.

The calculations use current 2025 federal tax rates, the $176,100 Social Security wage base, and the 20% Qualified Business Income deduction. We don't oversimplify or inflate the numbers to make S-Corp look better than it is. If your income level makes S-Corp more expensive than a regular LLC, the calculator shows that too.

What This Tool Is Not

SCorp Tax Calculator is an educational estimator, not a tax preparation service or legal advice platform. The results are estimates based on federal tax law and simplified assumptions. They do not account for state income taxes, AMT, business deductions specific to your situation, or other individual tax factors.

We always recommend verifying your results with a licensed CPA or Enrolled Agent before making any entity structure decision. The cost of a professional consultation is almost always justified given the long-term financial impact of the choice.

How the Calculator Is Maintained

Federal tax law changes annually — Social Security wage bases, standard deductions, and tax bracket thresholds are all indexed to inflation and adjusted each fall by the IRS. We update the calculator each year to reflect the latest published IRS figures for the current tax year. The current version reflects 2025 tax parameters including:

  • 2025 Social Security wage base: $176,100
  • 2025 standard deduction: $15,000 (single) / $30,000 (married filing jointly)
  • 2025 federal income tax brackets (all seven filing brackets)
  • Additional Medicare tax threshold: $200,000 (single) / $250,000 (MFJ)

Our Commitment to Accuracy

We take the accuracy of this tool seriously. Business owners use this calculator to make decisions with real financial consequences. The tax calculations are built on published IRS formulas and have been verified against multiple known scenarios. That said, tax law is complex and the calculator necessarily makes simplifying assumptions.

If you believe you've found an error in the calculations, please contact us with the details. We investigate and correct every legitimate report.
